On January 13, 2023, the White World Center for Contemporary Art hosted the opening of Alexander Lyapin's solo exhibition "My Head Is Exploding", which conceptually continues the 2019 project. At the exhibition, the artist presented more than ten paintings (it is interesting that some of them are not stretched on a stretcher) and wooden art objects inspired by the traditions of naive art.
According to Alexander, in his works he embodies the image of himself. Such a self-portrait of a modern Ukrainian, whose head really explodes from a mixture of news and the number of events. The contrasting color combination is reminiscent of 1960s American psychedelic art, the quintessence of which was releasing subconscious energy and fixing it in the moment.
The author "plays" not only with colors, but also with lines, shapes and visual texture, generating fantastic creatures that are woven into the context of reality. So, in the works of the artist, you can see the artifacts of the war, because his current work is directly created with the war.
Oleksandr Lyapin is a contemporary Ukrainian artist, sculptor, curator, photographer, and art critic. Participates and is the curator of many Ukrainian and international exhibitions. In particular, in 2021 he took part in the group project Beast Gods of the Imagine Point gallery.
