Ukrainian viewers will see the film "Pamfir" only on March 23, but already now they can familiarize themselves with the Ukrainian cultural context, see traditional costumes and other materials that inspired the authors of the film and became part of it.

On January 27, the exhibition "Pamfirova Malanka. Dance of death and life" was opened.

It combines cinematography and folk traditions, and as part of the project, more than 40 costumes, props and more than 100 ceremonial masks are presented.Malanka is a Ukrainian folk holiday, a New Year's rite with traditional dressing up as animals and folklore characters. In ancient times, festive dressing up performed important religious and magical functions, in particular, it was about the fight of light against darkness. It is a celebration of the winter cycle, reincarnation and rebirth, a masquerade: out-dancing the enemy, defeating him and surviving until dawn. The main line of the film "Pamfir" develops around the rite of Malanka.

The film "Pamfir" uses traditional masks from the villages of Beleluya, Hlyboka, Vashkivtsi, Krasnoilsk, Tarashany, as well as masks made to order by various folk craftsmen and artists. According to the curator of the exhibition Oleksiy Ananov, the experience of perceiving the exposition should consist of four steps: The first is the world of cinema and the creative workshop of the team of creators of the film "Pamfir" The second is the artistic canvas of the film The third is the rite of Malanka And the last and most important is a step into the mystique of the carnival, "into the field of myth, where the struggle between light and darkness, good and evil continues right now. Its outcome depends on us, and we have to win in this crazy dance - win, just like in real life."

Photo and video materials about the work on the film are also presented, which reveal the creative laboratory of director Dmytro Sukholitky-Sobchuk, costume designer Maria Kvitka, concept artist Olga Yurasova, cinematographer Nikita Kuzmenko, and production designer Ivan Mykhaylov. The exhibition "Pamfirova Malanka. Dance of death and life" will last until February 19.
